Since then people have come to Australia from all over the world to try their luck and the opal mining boom took off. But its been a tale of highs and lows. In the 1930s and 40s the Great Depression almost led to Coober Pedys total collapse, and the town was only saved in 1947 when an Aboriginal woman made a recordbreaking find which made headlines and sparked a new opal rush.
