French cementmaker Lafarge''s India arm has initiated the process of sale of its India business with the appointment of two investment bankers. The business comprising cements plants with a production capacity of 11Mta is valued at about INR110bn (US), the Business Standard reported.
Lafarge India operates three cement plants and two grinding stations with a total capacity of around 11 million tonnes per annum. The company also markets aggregates and is one of Indias leading readymix concrete manufacturers. The proceeds from the divestment will be used to reduce debt further.
#0183;#32;Lafarge has a cement plant with one leg in India and the other in Bangladesh. The plant also finds itself on both sides of law.
